Queen's Day

Thursday, 30 April 2009

I spent Queen's Day, Holland's national holiday, at Melissa & Martijn's. Young Luca was enjoying his new presents, bought at the traditional Queen's Day market: a big bus, a police car and a truck. Uncle Ben wanted to play with them too, but was not allowed to!

Ben the Builder

Tuesday, 28 April 2009

My good friend Johannes is about to move to a new house. As is the case most time, a lot of redecorating had to be done. So Ben the Builder has come into action. Can I fix it? Yes I can!

A masterpiece

Wednesday, 15 April 2009

Back home after my trip I was happy to find a birthday card from Rebekka that included this wonderful drawing by Boaz showing Uncle Ben drinking Uncle Ben Juice (a.k.a. Coca Cola).

Airport meeting

The airport is a good place to meet people. This time I had the pleasure to meet up with Rebekka and Boaz, who where on their way to Chile just a couple of hours after I arrived from Suriname. As everyone knows, airports are magical places for kids with lots to see ("Why does the pilot have a suitcase?") and plenty of open spaces to run around in with Uncle Ben.

Mobile office

Tuesday, 14 April 2009

We are very much users of virtual and mobile offices. Wifi enabled laptops are taken on all our trips, our cell phones are used for sending emails and making voip calls and skype is an absolute necessity. We also gratefully make use of the facilities offered by the airport lounge in Suriname.

Leguana Beach

Saturday, 11 April 2009

Unlike Aruba, Suriname is not blessed with white beaches and clear waters. There are a few beaches on the Atlantic coast, far from Paramaribo. Inventive as they are, several Surinami entrepreneurs have created beaches along the Suriname river. One of these is Leguana Beach, a cosy mini resort where chef Tony prepares delicious meals and the wine flows steadily.

Birthday dinner

Wednesday, 8 April 2009

I've had the luck to be in Aruba on my birthday this year. Our partners at AIB bank we're so kind to takes us out for dinner (unrelated to my birthday) and we had a very pleasant evening with good conversation and delicious Italian food. I think I will have to celebrate my birthday in the Caribbean every year!
